Guest Column:

Futurizmo Survivor welcomes tedhighway, our new guest columnist for this season of Survivor: Pearl Islands.

Oh how the tides have turned. For a while Andrew was sitting pretty, but the ghost of former tribemate Lil had to come back to haunt him. The Boy Scout troop leader decided it was within her best interest to align with the Drakes and help vote off attorney Andrew Savage.

Let's go back to the beginning. The outcast tribe, consisting of Nicole, Ryan S., Lillian, Burton, Michelle, and Trish had the opportunity to vote for someone other than themselves in order to get back into the game.

After each gave their reasoning for wanting back in, all six cast two votes each for the former castaways they wanted to see return. Apparently Lillian and Burton were mighty persuasive as they were each voted back into the game.

I cannot say I am a big fan of the current events happening within Survivor-land these days. All six members of the outcasts were voted out of their respective tribes for a reason, it might have been a very good reason or it might have been a thoughtless reason, but nonetheless they were voted out.

These six had their torches extinguished, in essence their life was taken from them, yet all of a sudden they get to
go back in as if nothing ever happened. I can totally understand the anger that has been expressed by fans
and even contestants concerning the matter.

Andrew, being the most vocal, said on the last episode, "These misfits don't deserve the chance to come back.", or something along those lines, and I adamently agree.

The remaining castaways that had not been voted off had worked to get to the position they were in, whether that included providing food, helping with challenges, or even fitting in with the right people.

Now they have the potential to be sent packing while someone that was voted out on day nine remains in the game. I am, however, all for changes. Even though I may not like the new twist, I do realize that it is something different and exciting. One thing we have never seen in any "Survivor" competition is the reactions and thoughts of castaways voted out. This is something new and hopefully it will morph into something extremely interesting.

After drawing buffs, both returnees were sent to their original tribes. Burton seemed excited and showed no ill feelings toward his teammates on Drake. Lillian, however, felt some animosity coming from within the Morgan tribe due to her return. Andrew even explained to Lillian how he felt concerning the new gameplay going on.

Andrew's reaction to the twist is probably how I would react, unbelievable anger. Even tough I would feel this way, however, I would still move on and form a new strategy. I would not dwell on the situation as Andrew seems to be doing, because you could easily lose focus and become an easy target. Sometimes in the game of "Survivor" you just have to go with the flow.

Two tribes became one at the immunity challenge. Finally the Morgans get to realize just how good food actually tastes, as I am sure they will thanks to Rupert.

Everybody seems excited to hear the news, knowing that they each have a one in ten chance of winning a million
dollars and now they have the ability to somewhat control their own destiny within the game due to individual immunity challenges.

Speaking of which, Burton claimed victory in the first individual immunity challenge which involved swimming under a bridge and collecting keys.

Sometimes I think the challenge department of "Survivor" just throws darts at a board in choosing their projects. "I know, let's have them swim under a bridge a couple of times.", great idea, I am sure the castaways will be tested to their physical and mental limitations in this olympic-like event.

Anyways, back at camp, the newly formed Balboa tribe engrosses themselves in a banquet and not long after, the game gets rollin'. The former Morgans want to vote Jon off, as they feel he is obnoxious and a little-backstabber, wait, isn't that all of the viewing audience.

Jon himself feels that the former Drakes can sign Lillian to their team because she still holds grudges with the people that voted her out in the first place.

Burton convinces Lil to join the Drakes by telling her that he feels the both of them can make it far in the game.
I am not sure what Burton is thinking at this juncture. If Lil joins, then she would easily be the sixth person out of a six person alliance.

Then again Burton may think he can somehow weasel her through with him to the end, or it could be a strategic move on his part that we don't know the full details on yet.

Lil gets some sweet revenge when cornered by Andrew. The attorney asks if she is on board with the Morgans to which she replies that she isn't sure. Andrew then proceeds to ask Lil if she would give him an answer before tribal council, to which she says, "Did you give me an answer before I left?", too funny.

So our beloved Mr. Savage gets his walking papers thanks to Lil's defection to the Drakes, and we are also treated to another wonderful professional wrestling quote from Jonny Fairplay. This time Jon enlists the vocal talents of "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the occasion.

Andrew can always walk away with his head held high due to the fact that he got the most respectful type of "Survivor" exit: he was a threat.

So, who's lookin' good right now: Christa and Sandra. Both are together in a majority alliance yet they are not walking targets like Rupert or a challenge threat like Burton.Who's lookin' bad right now: Ryan Opray. He is the strongest remaining out of the minority alliance. I see him as the next to go.
