Guest Column:
S8 Guest Column: "Good Ol’ Bucky Bo"

By
4/20/2004

A recap of episode 11 of Survivor: All-Stars.

Big Tom’s son is named Bucky Bo. What, you didn’t hear me? Yes, that’s right, he’s actually named Bucky Bo. He also speaks in the same native tongue that Big Tom uses as well. Is it weird that I understand every single thing that the goat farmer says? Well, I do.
Welcome friends and family to the obvious boot episode, O.B.E. for short. Everyone and their momma knew that Kathy was toast this week. Sadly, she was only given one day to try to attempt a comeback instead of the usual three days. I’m sorry to see you go Kathy. You were actually one of my
favorites this time.
There was only one challenge, and it was a super challenge for reward and immunity. It featured letters from home, videos from home, knife puzzles, a net climb, and all kinds of neat stuff. I don’t feel like going into specifics for it...so I won’t.
Boston Rob ended up winning immunity. Like we really didn’t see that coming. He made a deal for everyone to get their letters, and he forfeited his video in return. Is this a purely strategic move? He says it’s only somewhat of a strategic move, whereas I say that’s total crap. Of course
it’s a total strategic move. It was obviously the first thing on his mind after having tense arguments with Kathy and Lex. The man wants to look good.
Kathy tried to mix it up and stir some motion in the ocean. She’s gone though, so it obviously didn’t work. She warned everyone left that deals are harder to make when the number of people in the game continues to dwindle.
Are these people a bunch of crazies? Why yes, of course they are. They are letting Amber and Rob coast to the end. It’s really pathetic to watch considering the fact that this is supposed to be the All-Stars. If they’d all actually look around and see their position, maybe they’d wake up. "Romber" has deals with everyone except Shii Ann.
If these people actually started talking to one another and getting the dirt, then we might have a game on our hands. I would be trying my best to break Rob and Amber up regardless. Everyone knows that they’ll never vote for one another to leave. Uh hello people, wake up here.
We have seven contestants left. Of those seven, one has come in fourth place, one has come in sixth place, three have come in eighth place, and two have come in tenth place.
Man, this is really the All-Stars, ain’t it? Okay, seriously, these guys should’ve been listening to Kathy. She warned them that it becomes much harder to pull a power play when you don’t have the numbers around you anymore. Hopefully they’ll all wake up and make this game exciting.
So how good is Boston Rob? He’s played terrifically. He’s made all the right moves up to this point, and he doesn’t look like he’s about to slow down. His strategy is very similar to Brian Heidik, the winner of Thailand. He has deals with everyone, yet he chooses who to take with him. However, there is one aspect that is completely different than Mr. Heidik. Robfather is too loud. He’s in your face and sometimes mean to his fellow contestants.
Brian was great at balancing deceitfulness with kindness. He could lather someone up really nice with warm feelings of friendship, and then he’d vote that person out.
However, that person wouldn’t be that spiteful towards Brian because his words were always that of a friend. He made everyone feel great despite the fact that he just placed a knife in that person’s back. Robfather is too mean and cruel about the whole thing.
Will he ever be considered one of the greatest players? Not in my book. He came in tenth place when he first played the game. I think that says a lot.
It’s a shame that we’re left with this group of seven. Some of them wouldn’t even be my first picks for All-Stars. Big Tom is a bright spot though. He’s quite an underrated player, yet the man is very intelligent and savvy. I know it’s a weird balance, yet it’s true. If anyone could turn the tides here, I think he would be the man for the job.
Who goes next? Shii Ann will leave the island unless she actually makes some headway in trying to get through to some of these morons.
THE HIGHWAY COUNTDOWN
1. Amber Brkich – The least deserving All-Star might just win. Let’s us all pray that this doesn’t come to be.
2. Rob Mariano – The Robfather is pulling all the strings, and unless these so-called "All-Stars" get their heads out of their butts, he’ll ride this until the end.
3. Jenna Lewis – Jenna seems to be more in the favor of "Romber". She’s also non-threatening.
4. Tom Buchanan – Big Tom is the last remaining cast member that has actually been a part of the final four. Hopefully he’ll pull this one out.
5. Rupert Boneham – Rupert is more of a threat than Big Tom.
6. Alicia Calaway – Alicia has always been on the outside of the Chapera group. She should be the first one to leave when they begin to pick each other off. Her deal with Rob will be ignored, just like his deal with Lex.
7. Shii Ann Huang – She’s the last surviving member of Mogo Mogo. I’m actually okay with her leaving seeing as how I’m not her biggest fan.
