S8 Guest Column: "Please Don't Go Rich"

A rundown of Survivor All-Stars: Episode 5.

S8 Guest Column:

The first ever winner, Richard Hatch, was unanimously voted out and I am left sad. Rich was the most entertaining part of the show and he will definitely be missed.

The tribes competed in a reward challenge that had dire consequences. The losing tribe would be dissolved and split into the other two tribes. Nobody wants to be put in this position because you are immediately an outsider and therefore you are automatically on the chopping block.

Morgan tribe redux, or the Saboga tribe, finished last in the competition and became snotty-nosed children on an old ballfield for the other teams to pick from.

Mogo Mogo came in first place and won the honor of picking first. They chose Ethan, but not for his athleticism. The African winner was chosen so Mogo Mogo could dispose of him whenever they wanted. It's so evil and I love it.

Chapera took Rupert next, Mogo Mogo then took Jerri, and Jenna Lewis was finally chosen last by Chapera. We now have two tribes of seven. Mogo Mogo has Rich, Colby, Jerri, Ethan, Lex, Kathy, and Shii Ann. Chapera has Sue, Jenna L., Amber, Alicia, Big Tom, Rob M., and Rupert.

Mogo Mogo brought Ethan over so they could vote him off yet Colby finally steps into the limelight this episode and decides on another plan. The Colbster wants Hatch gone.

This can go either way really. On one hand you could take Rich with you and he would be an easy opponent to beat at the end, but on the other hand, as Colby described him, he is a cancer and he will spread as he uses his manipulation powers to get in a better position and take advantage of those around him. We'll have to wait and see if this is a good decision or not later on down the road.

Chapera won immunity in a tough challenge that comes directly from Thailand. Your goal was to make your way from one end of the course of balance beams to another end as you collect flags.

This is the challenge where we also have a contact beam, which means that two players can engage in a small wrestling match and throw one in the pool of water below. Ethan took a hard spill thanks to Boston Rob.

There was also an incident with Rich and Sue which I won't discuss because I don't want to. You can read about somewhere else.

With Mogo Mogo heading to tribal council, it seems as though Ethan is the obvious target, but Colby Donaldson had other plans. The tribe blindsided Richard as he was voted off six to one. At the last minute, it looked like the "Survivor" King was about to make a move to stay in the
game, but it was not to be.

I already miss you Rich,......please come back.

Here's a couple of things that are going to be interesting to see how they play out.

Now that Lex and Ethan are reunited, are they going to team-up and try to take this thing together like they did Africa?

How is this Jerri and Colby relationship going to work? Jerri has already stated that she wants revenge against Colby because of what he did to her in Australia.

Jenna Lewis had all the power in Saboga, but now that's she's in the minority at Chapera, how will she adjust?

Will Shii Ann, the designated challenge sit-out, ever compete in any challenge ever again?

Will Big Tom ever be dethroned as the survivor with the best confessionals ever?

Why the heck isn't Patricia Jackson, the best contestant ever, from the Marquesas out there? Okay, that last one was a joke.

THE HIGHWAY COUNTDOWN

1. Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien - I'm really enjoying Kathy this time around moreso than last. She's playing extremely intelligent right now.

2. Tom Buchanan - He may have his differences with Sue, but it doesn't matter. He's sitting pretty at Chapera.

3. Lex van den Berghe - I thought Lex would be the one to organize Rich's departure, but he stayed in the background and let Colby do his thing. It might be the best move Lex makes in the whole game. We'll see.

4. Amber Brkich - I'm getting a very bad feeling that the one person that doesn't deserve to be there is going to win.

5. Rob Mariano - He's the definite leader of Chapera and he has Amber in his back pocket.

6. Alicia Calaway - With the arrival of two new members, Alicia is put on the back burner and she isn't going anywhere right now.

7. Rupert Boneham - I think he's going to fit right in with Chapera and they'll need his strength.

8. Colby Donaldson - Colby is on a thin line right now, but I think he'll be alright for awhile.

9. Shii Ann Huang - Her admiration for Rich could bite her in the butt.

10. Jenna Lewis - She's coming into a new tribe and she has no allies.

11. Jerri Manthey - Jerri has a shot of making her way into the core group of Mogo Mogo.

12. Ethan Zohn - Ethan regained his huge target and he will leave soon.

13. Sue Hawk - She stays here until she leaves. It's like she didn't even try this time out. With rumors swirling that Sue quits, I would be in heaven if she was replaced with Brian Heidik. Only in my dreams I guess.
