Zap2it.com reports: "The Matrix Reloaded" has been banned in Egypt because of its "violent" content and because it tackles "religious themes."
Although the first "Matrix" movie was released in Egypt, it was criticized by Islamic newspapers for promoting Zionism.
The country's most senior film committee -- made up of 15 critics, academics, writers and psychologists -- watched the sequel earlier this week and banned the film believing that the film's storyline, especially regarding the search for the Matrix's creator and control of the human race, may cause "crises" in the country. They also fear the film's violent scenes have the potential to "harm social peace."
"Despite the high technology and fabulous effects of the movie, it explicitly handles the issue of existence and creation, which are related to the three divine religions, which we all respect and believe in," the board said in a statement.
In "The Matrix Reloaded", the human race is enslaved by artificially intelligent beings, and resistance fighter Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, is seen as their destined savior.
